Product Description

Suprasorb® A is a high-performance calcium alginate dressing designed specifically for the management of heavily exuding (leaking) wounds. It is highly absorbent and becomes a gel-like consistency upon contact with wound fluid, which helps maintain a moist environment conducive to healing.

1. Suprasorb® A (Standard)

Made from natural calcium alginate fibers (derived from brown algae).

When it absorbs wound exudate, an exchange of calcium and sodium ions occurs, turning the dressing into a clear, moist gel.

Benefits:

·       Manages large volumes of fluid, reducing the risk of skin maceration (softening/breaking down of the surrounding skin).

·       The soft fibers easily tuck into deep or irregularly shaped wounds.

·       The gel layer prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, making dressing changes less painful.

2. Suprasorb® A + Ag (Antimicrobial)

·       Calcium alginate fibers supplemented with silver (Ag).

·       It functions identically to the standard version but releases silver ions when it gels.

Benefits:

·       The silver provides a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect, killing bacteria within the dressing and the wound bed.

·       Effective against MRSA and VRE, making it ideal for wounds that are critically colonized or showing signs of infection.

Indications

These dressings are typically used for both superficial and deep wounds, including:

·       Pressure ulcers

·       Arterial and venous leg ulcers

·       Diabetic foot ulcers

·       Post-operative wounds

·       Skin graft donor sites

Application Tips

·       Cleanse the wound according to standard protocols.

·       Cut or fold the dressing to fit the wound size. For deep wounds, loosely pack the dressing (do not "stuff" it tightly, as it expands when wet).

·       Since alginates do not have an adhesive border and can dry out, they must be covered with a secondary dressing (e.g., a foam dressing or transparent film) to keep them in place and maintain moisture.

·       The dressing should be changed when it has completely turned to gel or when fluid begins to leak through the secondary dressing (usually every 1–3 days depending on exudate levels).

Note: Alginate dressings should not be used on dry wounds or wounds with minimal drainage, as they can stick to the tissue and cause trauma upon removal.
